Werkman Spring Games 2015
36 forging stations – 129 competitors for the forging contest – 450 visitors at the 2,5 days event – 1800€ benefit made in favor of FAF
FAF attended the 2015 Spring Games which took place in Tolbert from April 16-18th 2015. We always try to attend this farriers meeting which combines a forging contest and a congress at the same time, for several good reasons : its international side enabling interaction with farriers from all over the world, its excellent organization, its fun athmosphere and of course the faithful support that FAF has been receiving from Werkman Horseshoes since 2010 (creation of the Foundation). All these things make it a major event!
The long impressive row of 36 forging stations was set up in the Tolbert equestrian centre to receive 129 competitors and among them a surprisingly large female representation.
The women farriers did very well, both in the novice and intermediate categories of the contest! An encouraging sign for every girl wishing to join this captivating profession. The Open class first prize once again went to World Champion Steven Beane (UK), followed by Gert Jan Salm (NL) and Yohan Pollicard (FR).
The congress also included a quality program with well-known clinicians such as Dr. Hans Casteljins (NL), Mitch Taylor (USA) and Mark Caldwell (UK), and novelties in research on horses with fluoroscopic imaging techniques presented by Dr. Med. Vet. Jenny Hagen (DE) from Leipzig University. 450 persons visited the event and amongst them was Sahib Parminder Singh, our Indian coordinator, who is pursuing a continuous education training tour at the moment all over Europe. It was a great opportunity for him to see the best of the profession and to meet up again with some volunteers of FAF who had been his „teachers“ when he was still a trainee at our Indian Farriery Institute.
Just as in 2013, on the last evening of the event, Werkman Horseshoes kindly organized an auction for the benefit of FAF with forged objects from the Pot Luck. 1800€ were collected and will directly help the development of our projects in India and Kirghizstan.
